I am a rising M4 in the School of Medicine, going into my second gap year as a Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan. I chose to study in Taiwan as they have a top-down, government mandated approach to vision care in schools. As a former public school teacher at a low-income high school, I am particularly interested in the common barriers to accessing equitable education and quality healthcare. During medical school, I have researched operations of school-based vision programs in the United States in a mixed methods survey study.Â
