Dr. Vanya Jones is an Associate Professor and the inaugural Assistant Dean of Community Engaged Research at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is the co-editor of Creating Safe, Healthy, and Inclusive Schools: Challenges and Solutions, which is a collection of chapters written in collaboration with education and health researchers to elevate the importance of health as part of primary education. Dr. Jones’ research interests include adolescent peer-to-peer violence prevention, school-based health centers, and parental engagement in schools. She has collaborated on research and projects to support the health of children and youth including co-authoring Opportunity Youth chapter in “Untangling the Thread of Racism: A Primer for Pediatric Health Professionals” and evaluating educational program designed to pair youth from communities with low resources that sought medical attention from an emergency department for a violence related injury called “Take Charge.”
Dr. Jones is a member of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Institutional Review Board (IRB) Expedited committee, a member of the Child Injury Prevention Network, core faculty of the Center for Gun Violence Solutions and the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy, and serves as an Associate Director of the Johns Hopkins University Urban Health Institute.
